Our community offers over 20 different chapters as options for students that are interested in going Greek.
The Cultural Greek Council (CGC) consists of 6 chapters that are founded as culturally-based organizations. These organizations reside in a community-wide house. Students interested in joining a CGC organization should contact a member of specific organizations for more information. Students can attend informational sessions that will be advertised by each individual organization. Individual organizations conduct an independent, discretionary process overseen by the Fraternity and Sorority Life staff and the Graduate Chapter. The Interfraternity Council (IFC) consists of 10 residential fraternity chapters. Students interested in joining a fraternity of IFC can contact the IFC Executive Board (inifc@lehigh.edu) for more information about Open Houses and the IFC recruitment process. This recruitment process occurs in the spring semester and consists of events hosted by individual chapters. Students will attend events hosted by chapters they are interested in, and if the chapter expresses interest, the student will receive an invitation to begin new member education. The Panhellenic Council consists of 8 residential sororities. Students interested in joining a Panhellenic sorority can participate in the formal recruitment process the week prior to the start of classes in January. Events to assist students in understanding the process and to introduce them to sorority women will occur in the fall. Eligibility
Deferred Recruitment:
First-year students cannot join a fraternity or sorority until their second semester. Knowing that membership in a fraternity or sorority is an organizational obligation and potentially a residential obligation, Lehigh University believes it is important for students to acclimate to University life before making such an important decision.
Academic Requirements:
A Lehigh University student is eligible to join a Fraternity or Sorority after successfully completing a full-time Lehigh schedule of 12 credit hours or more and earning a 2.500 GPA or higher. Transfer credit hours do not apply towards eligibility. Individual organizations may have higher GPA requirements.
Student Conduct Implications
Certain violations of the Student Code of Conduct will affect membership eligibility in a fraternity or sorority including students who have been found responsible for serious violations of the LU Code of Conduct involving alcohol/drugs and students found responsible for more than one alcohol/drug violation. Violations include the use, distribution, or possession of alcohol or drugs. Students will not be permitted to join a fraternity or sorority in the semester the violation occurs, or the following semester.
Greek PREP
Students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority are required to attend a Greek PREP session. Greek PREP stands for Greek Pre-Recruitment Education Program. As a result of participating in this program, students will learn about the structure and mission of the Fraternity and Sorority community, policies and expectations, appropriate interactions with chapters, available opportunities that exist at Lehigh and proper communication methods. OFSA believes this program is an important element in demonstrating to interested students the value of the fraternity and sorority experience so that students are best equipped to prepare them for the opportunity of joining a Fraternity or Sorority at Lehigh.
This program meets the 5x10 requirement for Inclusive Leadership.

Recruitment FAQ
Membership in a fraternity and sorority is a lifetime commitment upon initiation into a chapter. If an organization loses their active status, you will be unable to join another chapter. Additionally, if you transfer to another institution, you may affiliate with your chapter at that institution or work to establish your chapter. Under very rare circumstances, you may petition your chapter's Inter/National Headquarters to disaffiliate from membership.
Panhellenic formal recruitment will begin on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 and end with bid day on Sunday, January 21st, 2024. Orientation is mandatory and will be held on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024. If you have any questions, contact our office at infrasor@lehigh.edu.
Our office is closely working with Housing Services to determine a safe plan for the return of students participating in sorority recruitment. All Lehigh University COVID guidelines are being followed to ensure all students return to a safe environment. Check back soon for updates.
No student participating in recruitment or intake for any council or chapter is guaranteed a bid to a Lehigh University chapter. In regards to formal sorority recruitment, Panhel does their best to place each woman who completes the entire recruitment process. For IFC and CGC chapters, it is in the best interest of the potential new member to participate in recruitment and/or intake events to show interest. Students are always welcome to send a letter of recommendation to the chapter. This letter can be submitted to our office.
